TORNADO DAMAGE MAPPING: THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE FROM RARE EF-3 TORNADO IN ARABI, LOUISIANA

The goal of this project was to map analyze the extent of damage in Arabi, Louisiana from the rare EF-3 tornado that touched down in New Orleans metro March 22, 2022.

My partner, Matthew Nelson, and I collected and mapped

the following data:

  • Arabi census outline

  • Aerial image (2018) pre-tornado

  • Aerial image (2022) post-tornado

  • Tornado track

  • EF scale/estimated winds

  • Deaths

  • Injuries

  • FEMA Structure Damage Scale in Arabi

  • Damage type near track 

  • St. Bernard Parish Map

My contributions to the project:

  • ArcGIS Pro formatting

  • Emailed organizations for data

  • Analyzed data results on ArcGIS Pro 

  • Gathered images of tornado damage
